My Dad sent me a link to a shirt he had found. It has a timeline of spaceships through history. Dating back to the beginning of the universe up to the end of all things. It's not even an XXL!
You can find the shirt here.
The ships from first to last are - The T.A.R.D.I.S., Millenium Falcon, The Galactica, Discovery, Saturn V, U.S.S. Enterprise, Serenity, The T.A.R.D.I.S..
I found the choice of ships quite interesting. First of all - the T.A.R.D.I.S. being first and last is hilarious. Beyond that it is also unique in this group as it is the only ship not built by Humans. Of course the Saturn V is the only one built by actual non-fictional humans. Yes, the Falcon and the Galactica are both from the distant past, or even another Galaxy. However, in the context of their respective fictions the people that built them were human. Whether they be from Corellia or Caprica.
The other thing I liked about the ship selection was that the purpose of all these ships is either trade, exploration or the preservation of life. "But the Galactica is a Battlestar, awarship" I hear you say. That is true. It was originally built as a warship. That is part of how we know it. That's not the whole story however. The Galactica, in both versions, becomes the protector and last bastion of an entire branch of Humanity. I think that counts.
So, that's way too many words about a neat shirt my Dad pointed out to me.
